Wednesday 22nd July 2015

A late one today. So no running yesterday being Tuesday and having to do another long night shift.
So onto today decent enough sleep ideally should be longer and unbroken  but nevertheless about 5 hours, doesn't sound a  lot but up I got

Firstly needed to do an errand so I decided to walk and extend that walk. Ended up walking 3.14 miles which was decent, still had my run to do

Later I did 13 minutes to do, walked up the hill and decided from there 6:30 out and back, it was slow a bit heavy legged but Wednesdays are always like that As my night shifts I'm on my feet all night, no sitting down  for me

A bit slower and not much further than Mondays run, but that's ok, working on routine and consistency 1.16 miles

New week slept in till 1pm as in work all night.

And  with todays run my 6th on the trot even though they've not been long Its gradually getting longer and its getting into the routine again

12 minutes today legs felt a bit tired but managed ok 1.11 miles so over a mile Hopefully know runs are getting longer it will effect my weight my fitness and getting quicker

Tomorrow will be a rest day

Good night at work last night  finished on  time.  Time to relax on getting home before bed.
Did wake a  few times but much better than recently Upon one time on waking it was 12.30 lunchtime for most people decided I better get up whilst not at work tonight I wont sleep tonight if I stay in  bed much longer.

Legs felt tired always seems to take them a little while to wake up after I have actually woken up sounds strange but best way to describe it.

I could have rested today but if I was able thought I would get out it was only going to be 11 minutes. Besides next week (my week always starts on a Monday) I will be having 2 days off. Tuesday as mentioned before and Saturday to celebrate someone's birthday and work

So an out and back run  today did involve going up a hill on  the out but 11 minutes done for 0.97 miles just shy of the mile Works out to be 11:20 pace

Sorry didn't blog yesterday. But  back today  Friday I slept in till about 1pm so tired didn't help waking every few  hours and J  who shares this house  (we rent rooms) is a noisy bugger when he leaves for work.
Today I had a better sleep woke around 10:30 felt ok but laid in bed for an hour before  getting up  but  this could be  work related i'm hoping things  will get  better least  better for  me.

Running wise this one minute more  plan is working 9 minutes yesterday 10 today, continuous  running  building fitness up nicely feeling fitter already. Walked to the top of the  hill these past  2 days  before I began my run. I will run up the hill soon. will get fit soon

Warm day today and yesterday but still felt pretty good.

Slept till about 10.30 though not great. Went to bed about 12.30 but could not sleep for ages it was gone 1.30 anyhow anyhow I got up at 10.30 ish Messed about indoors watching some news come on here and so on decided to go on my run, I had been leaving it till llater in the day when its cooler but not bad today though a bit muggy.

8 minutes today decided to run up the hill do a loop hill was manageable not easy was puffing a little bloke walking up ahead he moved so I could pass managed to say cheers not easy when you're breathing hard.

ok run no fancy numbers 0.72 miles 11:07 pace - mile pace 4 seconds quicker legs felt a bit better 

Housemate on my return said I wasn't gone long. Had to explain that I was building back up so you don't go out on a 10 mile run straight away.

He doesn't run

Another all nighter out of the way but I do lose a bit of Wednesday just really start to feel alive again come nightfall. I guess I am a Nightowl
So yesterday before work I was bad went and  had a KFC. with a large Pepsi  but that was that had water for rest of the night so by the time I went to bed the following morning I had  a good 12 hours without caffeine just  had an apple and some crispsthrough the night and almost a litre of water

Kept my phone away  from the bed, bed around 8am woke about 1.30 while not a lot of sleep I only woke once so a minor success and got up or rather I would be up half the night tonight.

Went for a run 7 minutes on my one  minute more plan a little stiff but always am on a Wednesday after 2 all nighters the rest of the week is normally a lot easier.

A short blog today well experiment  failed. Had a  busy night really tired got home  went to bed at about 8am but woke many times every few hours or so Got up eventually at 4.15pm. while it seems a good length of them I'm not rested from it.

So Sunday  last night a night I don't work and not wanting to go to bed too early. As I work all night  Monday  I try to sleep in as long as I can  on Monday to make the Monday night working easier. Note: its never easy

But what a crap night waking every 2 or 3  hours feeling  knackered  I eventually got up at 1pm not wanting to do anything. Reading through an old  blog I noted I had a good sleep and that  I didn't have my  mobile  phone by my pillow. I will try that again tonight, or rather  tomorrow morning

Back in  February  I devised my own running  plan a group of people  were doing this thing in February. On the first they ran a mile then 2, then 3 and so on, eventually running 28 miles on the 28th a great idea but very tough I wasn't going to do that. But substituted miles for minutes  I started on 5 minutes though  mid feb, the fact I started mid month doesn't matter. The fact is I started. I was allowed to have rest days as I needed them, as I was building my running up again.

By the end of March I was running 3 miles or  30 minutes I found this worked for me. But I was stupid I stopped and running started to be  non existant  again so trying it again starting today starting on 6 minutes today only 0.54 miles but its a start. Hopefully by end of August I'll be up for a parkrun

Busy at work last night  we finished late totally worn out. Did not  go to bed as soon as I got in, because you need to unwind before going to sleep.

Another night  of many wake ups. when I woke around 9 figured I need  more  sleep ao went back till about 11.30 when I got up.

I had figured on a long walk I couldn't find my Garmin and yes I could have  gone  without one  I like to measure  the route I take accurately Ended up watching the tennis. I wanted to Roger Federer to win. Alas it wasn't to be

Not a good night last night sleep wise was waking every few hours. So feeling a bitvtired work was OK but busy but got it all done, which is always good. Bed about 3, and had to get up around 11, as meeting a friend, then work again tonight.

No running or exercise today unless you count walking round the shops and the work tonight. Back to business tomorrow.
So now just drinking tea in a. Coffee shop that's in a bookshop while waiting for my friend to turn up which was free as I used my points on my loyalty card.

Work last night but only till 2am home and had something to eat as was hungry and if stomach rumbles I won't sleep. One of my specialties and not to everyone's tastebuds. A beetroot and tomato sandwich, with salad cream probably the salad cream and bread not good but it isn't about being good all the time.

Yesterday I got my shopping delivered I got a pack of 24 cans of coca cola, decided I would ration myself 1 can each day I had part of the can this morning finished it off after I woke and not had anymore

Yesterday also I went for a run walk did I say I can't remember 3.1 miles well today I went out did 2.3 miles slightly shorter,another warm day. But it got done.

Also yesterday I walked to work 1.5 miles and did the, same today. All counts

Tomorrow I'll be meeting a friend some bad food will be eaten am allowing myself one of these days each week then back to it.

Anyhow that's it for another day.

I was really tired yesterday, not much sleep only 3 hours or so but didn't go back to bed, till bedtime.
So tired I didn't go and run or walk or cycle. Not been on my bike yet but I will. So bed just after midnight did wake a few times really strange dreams had set alarm for 10.30 as was waiting for a supermarket shop delivery
Did not want to get up
But I did. Shopping came. Did some washing then off on a run walk. Went for 3.1 miles in just under 48 minutes I programmed it into my Garmin but I did it slightly wrong so stats not exact. I'll guess though I ran for about 20 of those minutes. I will publish stats when I get them right.

Talking of stats. Weigh in this morning. 150lbs that's a loss of 4 in the last week. Happy with that won't be that much each week but a good start.

Goal this week not to eat out except Saturday when I'm meeting up with a friend.

Last night was tough. It was a busy night and we didn't get out on time. Ended up staying almost 2 hours sufffice to say I was exhausted when I finished.
More drama unfolded when I realised phone not in bag when I got home. Where was it had I lost it or had it fallen out of my bag into my locker  Tried ringing it but nothing.
Had a few hours sleep couldn't sleep for ages guess I was overtired. Woke around 1pm guess I had 3 hours sleep. Decided to head back to work see if it was there if not then I would have to contact the phone people to put a block on the phone or whatever they do. Thankfully it was at work. So I can rest.

So 3 hours sleep feel tired but will stay up till bed tonight even though I feel wrecked.

First all nighter of the week busy night but then it usually is. Got home was a bit hungry so made myself an egg sandwich. So I could sleep I've had times when I couldn't sleep because my stomach was rumbling.

Bed at about 8am woke about noon go to toilet then back to sleep till about 3 maybe a little before Got up watched a bit of TV relaxed as have a long busy night ahead. Tuesdays I figure will have to be easy Call it my one rest day of theweek .


Not a bad sleep would ideally like to sleep till at least 5 but hey beggars can't be choosers

Sunday night and I don't have to work so earlier to bed than normal. But don't want to wake to early on Monday as back to an all nighter so try and sleep in as much as I can.
I went to bed earlier than normal 10.30 as I was a bit tired. But had a restless night waking every 2 - 3 hours.

But when I actually ran out of sleep by about 11ish I just stayed in bed but got up (was bored) by 11.45

Decided to get dressed for run or rather a run walk and went out for 2.1 miles same route as I did yesterday.
Hopefully I can repeat this most days and if not walk a good distance

Another night shift last night but an earlier finish. Got to bed about 2.30. Took a little while to get to sleep. Woke a couple of times. But soon got back to sleep. Maybe because I had some pizza and fries yesterday evening.
Got up around 12.

So not a brilliant sleep but not bad 7 out of 10.

Watching athletics on the TV get some motivation. Its the British Championships will see if I can get out for a run or walk after.

Another good night. Come home from work and in bed before 3am. Did wake after 5, to go to toilet. Back to bed and slept till 10.30.
No crisps eaten yesterday some fizzy cola but none for some hours before bed.

Must try and drink more water. probably did have half litre yesterday evening whilst at work.

Went out today was very warm but walked 2.75 miles Not much else to report

Last night was a busy one. But got home ate a banana, probably not the best idea not ideal but better than crisps which I have to say is a weakness of mine. Drank some water and off to bed at about 3.15.

Woke up about 2 hours later needed the loo. But went back to bed and slept till 10.30. This is good as I sometimes wake every hour or two.
Not easy to sleep well especially in the summer.

For breakfast I had some fruit an apple and a banana this seemed enough. With more water.

Another vice of mine is Coca-cola trying to limit the fizzy drinks. Had no crisps today this is good. Had some cottage pie with roast potatoes and veg tonight this should keep me going to bedtime.

Hours sleep 2+5. Pleased only had to get up once.

A new beginning

Hello, welcome to my blog.
I used to run and to some I used to run a lot Used to regularly run 30-40 miles a week getting up to 50mpw. The most I ever did was 70 on one occasion.
As I said to some it was a lot but to many runners out there that would be normal.

Like I said I used to run a lot. Not any more.

I work nights and now i am older I struggle a bit with getting enough sleep and be fully rested. Its not easy as you get older. So not running and eating rubbish food the weight has piled on.Today marked the day where I weighed the most I ever did

154.5 lbs Just over the 11 stone mark I never wanted to get that heavy I never wanted to get over 10 stone.
Back when I was running properly I was about 9 stone 2lb and that was alright weight in my 30s I have been lighter in my 20s but it wouldn't look good. You still have to look healthy and not scrawny looking

So this blog has to purposes the hopefully motivation to get back there running and eventually back racing, I was never fast but enjoyed the race element. And by running hopefully will help lose some weight healthily
But also to monitor my personal level how well I slept and all that

Will plan to set little goals and work in 6 week blocks, they say you can begin to notice improvements after 6 weeks after you try something new.
